The Chief Business of the Church :

Let it be a settled principle in our minds that the first and chief business of the Church of Christ is to preach the Gospel. The words of Paul ought to be constantly remembered – “Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel” (1 Cor. 1:17). When the Gospel of Christ is faithfully and fully preached we need not fear that the sacraments will be undervalued. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper will always be most truly reverenced in those churches where the truth of Jesus is most fully taught and known.

Our Chief Danger: Our Heart

Let it be a settled resolution with us to “keep our hearts with all diligence,” all the days of our lives. (Prov. 4:23.) Even after renewal they are weak. Even after putting on the new man they are deceitful. Let us never forget that our chief danger is from within. The world and the devil combined, cannot do us so much harm as our own hearts will, if we do not watch and pray. Happy is he who remembers daily the words of Solomon, “One who trusts in himself is a fool.” (Prov. 28:26.)

Howell Harris :

Although it was contrary to the laws of the church of England for an unordained man to go about as a religious teacher, Harris took up this work with increased zeal. He expected to be ordained as soon as he was old enough, but would not sit idle till that time, and we see something of his fervent activity as we read his account :
"A strong necessity was laid upon me, that I could not rest, but must go to the utmost of my ability to exhort. I could not meet or travel with anybody, rich or poor, young or old, without speaking to them concerning their souls. I went during the festive season from house to house in our parish, and the parishes of Llangors and Llangast, until persecution became too hot. I was absolutely dark and ignorant with regard to the reasons of religion; I was drawn onwards by the love I had experienced, as a blind man is led, and therefore I could not take notice of anything in my way.
My food and drink was praising my God. A fire was kindled in my soul and I was clothed with power, and made altogether dead to earthly things. I could have spoken to the King were he within my reach - such power and authority did I feel in my soul over every spirit...I lifted up my voice with authority, and fear and terror would be seen on all faces. I went to the Talgirth fairs, denouncing the swearers and cursers without fear or favour.
At first I knew nothing at all, but God opened up my mouth (full of ignorance), filling it with terrors and threatenings. I was given a commission to rend and break sinners in the most dreadful manner. I thundered greatly, denouncing the gentry, the carnal clergy and everybody."

Whitefield Quote :

I love those that thunder out the word! The Christian world is in a deep sleep. Nothing but a loud voice can awaken them out of it!

The Forgotten Trinity, Jame White :

Biblically speaking, there are three kinds of beings who are personal: God, men and angels. I have being: I exist. Yet I am personal. My being is limited and finite. It is limited to one place geographically speaking, and one time temporally speaking. Despite all the star treck scenarios to the contrary, I am limited to one place at one time. Such is the essence of being a creature. My being is shared by only one person: me. My being, since it is limited, cannot be distributed among two, three, or any more persons. One being, one person: that's what it is to be a human.
What we are saying about God is that His being is not limited and finite like creature's. His being is infinite and unlimited, and hence can, in a way completely beyond our comprehension, be shared fully by three persons, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. The divine being is one; the divine persons are three. While the Father is not the Son, nor is the Son the Spirit, each is fully and completely God by full and complete participation in the divine being. Unless we recognize the difference between the terms being and person, we will never have an accurate or workable understanding of the Trinity.

Live For Eternity, J.C. Ryle :

Here we are striving, laboring, exhausting ourselves about little things, and running here and there like ants on an anthill! And yet after a few years, we will all be gone--and another generation will take our place. Let us live for eternity! Let us seek His Kingdom and His Righteousness that can never be taken from us!

Was Jesus Polite To False Teachers ?
2Pe 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
2Pe 2:2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

Do you have compassion for souls ?

The more we become what we shall be, the more will compassion rule our hearts. The Lord Jesus Christ, who is the pattern and mirror of perfect manhood, what said he concerning the sins and the woes of Jerusalem? He knew Jerusalem must perish; did he bury his pity beneath the fact of the divine decree, and steel his heart by the thought of the sovereignty or the justice that would be resplendent in the city’s destruction? Nay, not he, but with eyes gushing like founts, he cried, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, how often would I have gathered thy children together as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings! and ye would not.”
If you would be like Jesus, you must be tender and very pitiful. Ye would be as unlike him as possible if we could sit down in grim content, and, with a Stoic’s philosophy, turn all the flesh within you into stone. If it be natural, then, and above all, if it be natural to the higher grace-given nature, I beseech you, let your hearts be moved with pity, do not endure to see the spiritual death of mankind. Be in agony as often as you contemplate the ruin of any soul of the seed of Adam.

The Subtle Disease of Loving Money :

Let us watch and pray against the love of money. It is a subtle disease, and often far nearer to us than we suppose. A poor man is just as liable to it as a rich man. It is possible to love money without having it, and it is possible to have it without loving it. Let us be “content with such things as we have.” (Heb. 13:5.) We never know what we might do if we became suddenly rich. It is a striking fact, that there is only one prayer in all the Book of Proverbs, and one of the three petitions in that prayer is the wise request–“Give me neither poverty nor riches.” (Prov. 30:8.)
